Kununurra Youth Employment Expo

21 May 2013 Dear KCCI Member KUNUNURRA YOUTH EMPLOYMENT EXPO – THURSDAY 20 JUNE 2013 In partnership with Regional Development and Lands, MG Corporation and Leighton Contractors we are hosting a Youth Employment Expo. The Expo will be held at the Kununurra Town Oval on Thursday 20 June 2013 and will be aimed at both boys and girls from years 9 to 12 fromKununurraClontarfAcademy,WyndhamDistrictHigh SchoolandKununurraDistrictHigh School. This is an opportunity for you to showcase your business and highlight the employment opportunities for young people within and around Kununurra. We aim to make the Expo as interactive as possible, so we encourage all participants to bring along machinery or equipment where students can try their skills first-hand. We are anticipating over 160 students will be involved which we will split into two groups and alternate between the Expo and a bus tour of the Ord site. Both groups will come together for a barbecue lunch on the oval and the event will culminate with an afternoon football match betweenKununurraClontarfAcademyandKatherineClontarfAcademyatKununurraDistrictHigh School. Youth Mental Health First Aid Training

KAMSC Social and Emotional Wellbeing Workforce Support Unit would like to offer Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training. KAMSC has modified the Youth Mental Health First Aid Training to ensure that the training is culturally appropriate for the Kimberley region.   YMHFA is for adults who live, love or work with 'youth' aged between 12-25yrs to enable them to feel more confident in identifying mental health issues and providing initial 'mental health first aid' whilst supporting someone to access appropriate help.   The web page for further information is: www.mhfa.com.au   The training is a 14 hour course and is delivered by two trainers. NPARIH - Tendering forum

Invitation to Aboriginal Businesses and Contractors

Aboriginal businesses and contractors are invited to attend a one-day information forum to hear of opportunities to participate in the tendering arrangements in the 2014-2018 National Partnership Agreement on Remote Indigenous Housing (NPARIH) program and other government contracting opportunities. Representatives from the Department of Housing will provide the keynote address and outline details of the NPARIH program and how you can get involved. Representatives from the Small Business Development Corporation, Indigenous Business Australia and the Small Business Centre will provide information on their programs and support available to existing and potential Aboriginal businesses and contractors. The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations invites you to attend the presentation by Ivan Neville for the Department’s Labour Force Relations in Canberra.  Ivan will present findings of the Kimberley Employers’ Recruitment Experiences Survey which occurred in November 2012.  The survey collected responses from over 260 employers from across the region.  There were a number of distinctive challenges for the Kimberley identified through the survey.  With this in mind, the presentation will outline some of the challenges and the many opportunities currently present in the Kimberley area.
